Free events include Music of the Gilded Age, featuring Dr. Orin Grossman and Friends on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Orin Grossman, Music for Youth performers, and the Barbershop quartet Take 4 present the popular music of the Library's early years (1890-1917). Experience musical theater, a capella barbershop, ragtime, and popular parlor classics through song, dance, and a group sing-a-long. Next, everyone can enjoy the spring outdoors on Pequot’s Great Lawn during the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestra Great Lawn Concert on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy selections performed by the GBYO String Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble. Pequot’s free concerts summer season wraps up with the Hungrytown Folk Concert on the Great Lawn on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. Pack a picnic, bring a lawn chair or blanket, and enjoy one of the last evenings of the summer on Pequot’s spacious Great Lawn. After more than a decade of world-wide touring and three album releases, Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson, otherwise known as the folk duo Hungrytown, have earned a reputation for the quality and authenticity of their songwriting.
This summer’s ticketed events support free music programs. The series begins with classical pianist Nicole Wang on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. Wang has been heralded as "a prodigy at the piano with brilliant facility, compelling musicality, and a depth of emotion far beyond her years" by the Sichuan News in China. She is followed by jazz pianist Rex Cadwallader on Sunday, June 11 at 2:00 p.m. Enjoy an afternoon of jazz with this Emmy Award-winning composer whose compositions for big band, small jazz ensemble, and vocal jazz ensemble have been recorded worldwide, from Tokyo and Great Britain to universities and colleges across the United States. This summer’s ticketed season ends with classical pianist Alex Beyer on Thursday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m. Beyer has received warm praise for his performances nationally and internationally. In 2016, he was the bronze medalist in the Queen Elisabeth Competition, and was named one of five finalists of the American Pianists Association Awards.
Ticket prices are $20/ea for Adults; $10/ea for Students; $50/ea for Adult Summer Series; and $25/ea for Student Summer Series.
