WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), co-author of the Special Counsel Transparency Act, released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly in favor of a resolution in support of ensuring that the work of Justice Department Special Counsels is made available to both Congress and the public.

“This overwhelming bipartisan vote is a spectacular display of unity in favor of transparency. There is clear consensus: the Mueller report should be released to the American people and their elected representatives in Congress. The public paid for it, and they deserve to see its results. With near-unanimous support for this fundamental principle in the House, the path forward for my Senate colleagues is clear: join the Blumenthal-Grassley bill and demand a vote.”

The Special Counsel Transparency Act, which Blumenthal wrote with U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), and is co-sponsored by U.S. Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and John Kennedy (R-LA), requires that a Special Counsel submit a report directly to Congress and the public at the conclusion of an investigation, if the Special Counsel is fired or transferred, or if the Special Counsel resigns. The report must include all factual findings and underlying evidence.
