Southport, CT – Building on the popularity of the Pequot Presents: The Oscars Movie Series, Pequot Library announces a special summer film series in conjunction with its Pages from Pequot Special Collections exhibition, Jane Austen: Insights and Influences. The films begin Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. and run through August 30, with a different movie each week.

Discover how the 21st century envisions the timeless works of Jane Austen and enjoy five critically acclaimed films adapted from her novels. If you are interested in an adult group tour of the exhibition please contact the Library for tour information at kaul@pequotlibrary.org.

The film Love & Friendship (PG) kicks off the series on August 2. Bring your own refreshments and watch the film on "the big screen" in the Auditorium. All five films are free matinée screenings with general seating and no reservations required. Love & Friendship is set in 18th century England, with the seductive and manipulative Lady Susan (Kate Beckinsale) using devious tactics to win the heart of the eligible Reginald De Courcy (Xavier Samuel). This 2016 critically acclaimed period comedy is an adaptation of young Austen’s novella Lady Susan, believed to have been written in the mid-1790s and finally published by her nephew, James Edward Austen-Leigh, in 1871.

Pequot Presents: Jane Austen Movie Series follows with: August 9: Sense and Sensibility (PG – 1995), August 16: Pride & Prejudice (PG – 2005), August 23: Emma (PG - 1996), and August 30: Persuasion (PG – 1995).
