Stamford, CT - Stamford Public Schools (SPS) announced that students from Westhill High School (WHS) recently earned top honors at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)National Leadership Conference, where more than 9,200 of America’s top high school students competed in more than 70 business and business-related events.

WHS Rising Junior Rutvik Marathe took fifth place in the Coding and Programming competition. While WHS Rising Seniors Cristian Smina, Christopher Matrullo and Julien Matrullo, placed ninth in the Banking and Financial Systems competition. WHS Teachers Kim Kumar and Karen Kurtz serve as the advisors for the WHS chapter of FBLA. All four students are part of the three-year Academy of Finance program at WHS.

According to the organization, the FBLA conference recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. FBLA competitive events also prepare students for successful careers in business by providing opportunities to apply classroom concepts in a workforce-simulated competitive environment.

In addition to competing against students from across the country, WHS students also had an opportunity to experience interactive workshops, hear motivational speakers and visit an exhibit hall.
