Hartford netminder Alexandar Georgiev was sensational from start to finish, making a career-high 43 saves as the Sound Tigers fired 44 shots on target for the second consecutive outing.
Things got going early when former Sound Tigers forward Joe Whitney found the back of the net just 15 seconds into the opening frame. Whitney fell to his right and was able to make contact as he backhanded in a rebound, which bounced glove side of Gibson following a shot from John Gilmour at the left point. Bridgeport responded on the power play past the seven-minute mark of the first period after Ryan Sproul was called for slashing.
Bourque netted his first tally of the season at 7:28 of the first period, going stick side on Georgiev. Bourque fired a wrist shot following a rebound from Devon Toews’ blast that Sebastian Aho also assisted on. Aho now has six points in his last three games. Overall, the Sound Tigers outshot Hartford 18-6 in the opening frame, but found themselves at a 1-1 tie heading into the second period.
The Sound Tigers again outshot Hartford in the middle frame, 15-6, but both netminders kept the puck from crossing the goal line. Following a lengthy delay to begin the third, Hartford broke the deadlock with the game-winning tally at the 12:03 mark. Dan Catenacci netted his first goal of the season on a slap shot from the high slot. Bridgeport’s defense attempted to clear the puck from deep in its own zone, but it slid right to Catenacci, who beat Gibson blocker side.
Bridgeport finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill. The Sound Tigers outshot Hartford 44-25, while Gibson (3-4-0) made 23 saves, but saw his three-game win streak come to an end.
Next Time Out: The Sound Tigers are off until this Wednesday when they travel to Hartford, Conn. to rematch the Wolf Pack at 7 p.m. Fans can follow all of the live action on the Sound Tigers Radio Network and AHL Live, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m.
